Keep Your Fade Fresh: 5 Ways to Maintain Your Cut Between Visits

A fresh fade looks its best when the shape, texture, and line-up work together. A few simple habits can help you keep that clean look between appointments at Under The Radar Barber Studio.

1. Keep your hair and scalp clean

Build a washing routine around your hair texture, activity level, and the products you use. After workouts or a long day, rinse away sweat and avoid letting styling products build up. Work shampoo gently into your scalp, rinse thoroughly, and follow with conditioner suited to your hair.

2. Moisturize without weighing your style down

Start with a small amount of leave-in conditioner or moisturizer that works for your texture. Focus on keeping your hair manageable rather than coating it in heavy products. Add a little more only if you need it—too much can flatten the style or leave residue.

3. Use the right tool for your texture

For a brushed style or waves, use a clean, soft brush and follow the direction of your hair. For curls, gently detangle with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb while your hair is conditioned. Avoid pulling or forcing a brush through tangles. Ask me at your next appointment which tool makes sense for your cut.

4. Protect the shape of your cut

A satin pillowcase or a properly fitted satin bonnet or durag can help reduce friction while you sleep. Keep your headwear clean and comfortable. Give your style a quick reset in the morning with the routine we discuss in the chair.

5. Plan your next appointment before the fade grows out

Close fades show new growth quickly, while longer styles can hold their shape for more time. Your ideal appointment schedule depends on your cut and how sharp you like to keep it. Before you leave the studio, we can talk through when to book your next full cut or whether an edge-up would help between visits.

Resist the urge to push your hairline back with an at-home line-up. Keeping the natural shape gives us a better starting point for your next visit.
